brave new blogging

It always interesting to be confronted with what seems to be your native language, and allegedly a language you understand, only to find yourself wandering through a forest of new terms, new words and new concepts. The mind races to comprehend, struggles to keep up while despair and confusion clutch and grab, trying to bring you down. The question was posed: why blog? The best response seems to be because it's there.

Today is Thursday, August 2008
Blogging is all new to me!

Lucky Ducky's reasons for blogging

I want to set up a blog to share news with members of a social club to which I belong. It will be used to disseminate information such as upcoming events and other news of interest. I would like all members to contribute, to use it as a mechanism to socialize online when they can't meet in person.

I want to blog to....

I want to blog to help out my department. I am the assistant to the Chair and I have to interact with all faculty and staff. Currently we are having communication issues amongst the faculty and staff and blogging and wikis may be very helpful to our department. There is no single medium that everyone in the department uses which is partly why there is a communication problem. I am hoping creating a department blog and wiki will help keep everyone on the same page and well informed of all the issues and tasks that are being worked on. I will probably be the holder and creator of the department blog. The Chair, Committee Chairs, MSO and myself will be managing and administrating the blog; whereas staff and faculty will be able to provide comments. There are a lot of ongoing projects that I have noticed everyone has an opinion on, and blogging will be perfect to provide that option as well as document it.

In preparation for the August workshops, I have updated these pages (under 'Workshop Links').

I would like to post a blog for my residency training program on my web site. This would be useful for residents to express issues regarding clinical and academic experiences. I would like it to be dialogue used to enhance the educational experience of residency.

My Purpose

I want to set up a blog to create a record of my life. I would like to document important events and some of my daily activities. My intended audience would be people with similar interest as me and I would allow comments from people I know.

I want a blog to deliver departmental news to the EH&S department. Is it a better way to go than using Adobe GoLive to maintain an old-fashioned Web site?

I think it would be 1-way communication at first. Perhaps I could invite 2-way communication later. How serious is the spam problem?

Alumni Communication

I want to set up a blog to enhance communication between Rady constituents: alumni, staff, faculty and students. The intended audience will be primarily Rady alumni. The author would be a Rady staff member. Communication would be two-way.

Purpose of My Blog

I am thinking of a blog to relay information to fund managers & faculty assistants. I would like to have them be able to comment or provide insight on subjects that come up, ie new policies/procedures they have encountered. I would like two way communication.

I am considering setting up a blog....

1) To provide journalists with story tips and news from UC San Diego. In this case, there would be multiple contributors -- my colleagues in University Communications and Public Affairs. Ideally, the communication would be two-way but if the blog proved too attractive to pranksters and snarky commentators, it might have to become one-way.

and/or

2) To stay in touch with friends and family. Here, I would be the sole contributor and would hope for lively interaction with the intended audience.

Web 2.0

Two way communication is the primary goal for my blog. I would like to begin a blog to have discussions with students about what they are thinking and learning about.

My favorite new site

It's www.fantasticfiction.co.uk. Great place to look at authors and lists of books. Especially if I want to see what's in a series.

I want to set up a blog to...

... provide web administration and publishing information to web administrators and web content writers in the divisions of the Department of Medicine. Initially I'll be the only contributor, and others will post comments. I expect the communication to be two way. As I learn more about wikis, I may decide to use a wiki for this purpose instead.

We use a blog to post news for the Department of Medicine website -- UCSD IWDC set this up for us.

I want to set up a blog to

develop better communication with students and instructors. I want to set up 2 blogs. One is for the instructors that teach the courses in the program area I coordinate. The other will be for students to give me feedback on the instructors, content of courses and courses they would like to see offered. Communication would be two-way. I would be the administrator.

I want to set up a blog to....

My main reasons are to keep up with current technology, keep in contact with family for genealogical and personal purposes and to make contacts with other administrative assistants.
My intended audience is family, friends and coworkers.
I hope to get many contributors as well as myself.

I want to set up a blog to..

Seek suggestions to generate savings for expected budget cut.
The intended audience are UC community and anyone can contribute. The comunication will be two-way.

I want to set up a blog to...

Keep friends and family up to date about the happenings in my life. A lot of my friends, family, and co-workers currently use blogs, and I have been thinking about setting up my own blog for awhile now, but I haven't decided on the right software, etc. I would be the only contributor to my blog, but I would like to make a comment option available so that I can get feedback from readers.
