...honestly, I just want to find a better way to utilize existing blogs for research purposes. I dont need to start my own.

Since I am not looking to start a blog I suppose this second exercise is not applicable to my entry...
However, IF I were to start a personal blog I would prefer to have it hosted online without need of constant support (aka on a free website like Blogger). I would be the adminstrator and probably perform any IT support needed, only seeking outside support when needed to clarify an issue I am unfamiliar with.
A professional Blog would be an entirely differnt matter.
